India’s Steel Plant Accident Kills Eight Workers

(MENAFN) Eight workers have died after being struck by molten iron at a steel plant in India’s southern state of Andhra Pradesh, according to officials.

According to reports, the incident also left six others injured at the Vizag Steel Plant on Monday. The accident reportedly occurred when a container carrying molten iron was being transported by a crane and the material spilled onto workers nearby.

The molten metal was estimated to reach temperatures of around 1,600°C (2,912°F), making the incident particularly severe.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu said in a statement that he had instructed officials to take all necessary steps and provide immediate support to those affected.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed condolences over the tragedy in a post on social media, saying he was “saddened” by the incident and wishing a speedy recovery for the injured.

“The local authorities are providing all possible assistance to those affected,” he added.
