Motegi noted that the call followed a previous conversation held last month, highlighting the frequency and continuity of diplomatic engagement between Tokyo and Muscat. Both sides pledged to maintain close communication channels aimed at easing regional tensions — with particular focus on preserving the safety of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, the strategically critical chokepoint through which a significant share of the world's energy supply flows daily.
The ministerial exchange comes just one day after Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi held their own phone call to discuss regional developments in the wake of the US-Iran ceasefire — signaling Tokyo's intensifying diplomatic activity across multiple fronts simultaneously.
The urgency of Japan's engagement is underscored by its acute energy vulnerability. The country imports nearly all of its crude oil, with more than 90% of those shipments originating from the Middle East — leaving Japan exceptionally exposed to any prolonged disruption in Gulf energy transit routes.
