Wang Yi Meets with Joint Delegation of Leaders from Pacific Island Countries
On October 9, 2026, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs Wang Yi met in Beijing with the Joint Delegation of leaders from Pacific Island Countries headed by Tonga’s Deputy Prime Minister Viliami Uasike Lātū.
Wang Yi said that under the joint guidance of President Xi Jinping and leaders of Pacific Island countries, the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Pacific Island countries has become more mature and robust. China is ready to work with Pacific Island countries to firmly support each other in following development paths suited to their own national conditions and independently chosen by their people, strengthen party-to-party exchanges and cooperation, and jointly build an even closer China-Pacific Island countries community with a shared future.
Viliami Uasike Lātū and others thanked China for the tremendous assistance it has long provided for the economic and social development of Pacific Island countries, and said that they would firmly adhere to the one-China policy and were willing to strengthen exchanges and interactions with the Communist Party of China.
